Protests in France against employment laws

Today's Independent reports on the demonstrations in France against the right wing employment laws there:

The protesters want Mr de Villepin to withdraw a youth job contract, known as the First Employment Contract (CPE), that lets firms fire workers under 26 without explanation in their first two years on the job. He launched it to spur reluctant employers to take on new staff.

The best way in my opinion to protest against this law is to go on a consumer strike. Not just one day but long term. People should drastically reduce their consumption, and what they do consume should be in an intelligent manner. Let's stop buying CDs, designer clothes, supermarket food(let's buy our food whenever possible straight from the producer at a fair price), books(libraries haven't been closed down yet) etc. I do not claim to be the best example of what I preach, but I pledge to make all the efforts in that direction.
