Lib Dem leader wants higher taxes on air travel

Today's Guardian has this report, looking at the new Lib Dem leader's tax plans:

He urged the Lib Dems to "think afresh" and signalled his support for higher taxes on air travel, with allies suggesting petrol and even domestic fuel use might also be affected. "We've got to be honest enough to say to people - look, cheap flights come at a cost far greater than what you actually pay for them," he told BBC1's Sunday AM programme.

Hey! don't forget Chirac is the father of the 'solidarity air tax' intended for aid to the South. Vive la France!

Ah yes, the air tax for aid, wasn't it Jez? Personally i'd like to see some huge taxes on oil companies profits as well, then put that money to good use for a change dealing with the effects of pollution, and invested in greener energy alternatives.

We don't even need huge oil-profit taxes. We just need to take away their massive subsidies. You know, free market and all that.

Well, yes, those subsidies could be put to better use.
