DUP attacks Blair on "Protestant bigots" remark

    From the Evening Echo:

In a speech yesterday, Tony Blair said Muslims who committed acts of terrorism were no more true to their faith than "Protestant bigots" who murdered Catholics in Northern Ireland.

Mr Paisley has described the remarks as a disgraceful and provocative insult to the Protestant community.

Actually, Mr Paisley should know that there are fundamentalist extremists in every religion. It's quite telling Blair didn't describe Catholics in the same way though, why didn't he say "Christians", instead of only "Protestant".

Because the Catholics are the indigenous population of the Six Counties while the Protestants are descended from British colonists. It would really help if you would read up on Irish history before commenting on current events in the north of Ireland.

My point, diarmid, was that there are extremists in every religion, which is why I stated that the term "Christian" rather than purely "Protestant" should have been used. I have read about Northern irish history, rather a lot, the point here is about extremists from whatever religion though, now, if you'd like to respond, please ensure you abide by our posting policy.

Christianity of any stripe is not indigenous to Ireland. Here's a hint: Roman occupation of Britain.
