MPs vote for id card compulsion when applying for passports

The BBC reports that MPs have voted in favour of Blair & Co, with a majority of 31, plans for all passport applicants after 2008 to be put on an id card database, they then voted, by a majority of 51 to ensure all applicants are given cards. MPs had earlier voted to require new legislation before id cards themselves are made compulsory. If you click on that link, you'll see that there's a poll at the side of the page asking if ID cards will make the UK safer, so far only 24.54% of people who've voted there have said that id cards would make us safer, while 75.46% of us don't believe that.
