Hospitals losing the battle against MRSA

Readers may remember Blair's promises to "save the NHS" before coming to power. Hower, readers will also be aware of the numerous cases of MRSA and Chlostridium Difficile: The Times reports on how hospitals are losing the battle against MRSA:

In the six months to September 2005, there were 3,580 cases of MRSA bloodstream infections reported in England, up from 3,525 for the same period the previous year. The figures have changed little in five years: in the first half of 2001, there were 3,616 cases. In 2004, John Reid, then Health Secretary, set a target of halving the number of infections from an annual rate of 7,684 cases to 3,842 by 2008.
