    Gay marriage could improve health

    That's apparently the opinion of a study, from the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, according to this article, from today's Guardian:

    The researchers compared data on the health and wellbeing of heterosexual married couples, those in gay marriage or civil unions, and single gay men and lesbians. Despite high divorce rates, most evidence shows that married couples enjoy better mental and physical health and tend to live longer than single people, partly because spouses receive more emotional and practical support. In contrast, the researchers found that gay men and lesbians suffer higher rates of mental illness and substance misuse than straight people due to prejudice and intolerance on religious grounds.
