Conservativsm: Rooted in fear and aggression

I remember reading this article, from the Guardian some time ago, and remember thinking that the study certainly described some sort of mental illness displayed by a lot of rabid right wingers i've had the displeasure of stumbling upon:

A study funded by the US government has concluded that conservatism can be explained psychologically as a set of neuroses rooted in "fear and aggression, dogmatism and the intolerance of ambiguity". As if that was not enough to get Republican blood boiling, the report's four authors linked Hitler, Mussolini, Ronald Reagan and the rightwing talkshow host, Rush Limbaugh, arguing they all suffered from the same affliction.

You are so right. The rise of the BNP vote in the 2005 euro elctions is directly linked to increasing UK levels of mental illness.

A massive expansion of mental health funding and provision is urgently needed.

Although there are many criticisms to be made of the former Soviet Union, they got one thing right - the prompt diagnosis of mental illness, followed by incarceration, for poliical opponents. This is the road we need to take.

This isn't really "news." The study has been out for a while. I quoted some of it to a wacko, hooray-for-genocide, hooray-for-the-Iraq-war, right-winger once, and he agreed with what I quoted.

Laban, sorry, I can't support your idea.

Laban, I certainly wouldn't agree with the incarceration of political opponents. If you'd read this blog over a period of time, I think you'd find that we are against fascism here.

DJEB,unfortunately, that doesn't surprise me in the least.
