Cheney adviser: "He didn't do anything he wasn't supposed to do"

Following my co-editor's post concerning the American vice president shooting another hunter, I should inform readers that a Cheney adviser doesn't believe that Cheney did anything wrong. Thanks to MaxSpeak for the quote:

"The vice president was concerned," said Mary Matalin, a Cheney adviser who spoke with him yesterday morning. "He felt badly, obviously. On the other hand, he was not careless or incautious or violate any of the [rules]. He didn't do anything he wasn't supposed to do."

So, it was not, at the very least, careless for the American vice president to shoot someone? And he was supposed to shoot Harry Whittington? How bizarre!

Surely it could have been an accident. Not everything these people say is a lie, is it?
That said, I'm rather surprised it isn't bigger news. I think the most worrying thing will be that there won't be any inquest, accident or no accident.

I suppose this could have been an accident, however, I merely found the statement made to be rather bizarre. I certainly feel that the White House attempted to keep quiet about the incident for as long as they could.

As Time points out, it shows Cheney, a supporter of gun ownership, is ignorant of basic safety rules. See my blog.

Given mean old Mr. Potter's (sorry, It's a Wonderful Life reference), it's not surprising that he wants to duck any responsibility for this.

As for what happened, I'd bet one of my kidneys that the cause was bloody stupidity on behalf of Cheney.

I still don't get how you shoot your "companion" when you're both wearing bright orange and hunting for BIRDS.

Unless this Harry guy is really, REALLY tall....

Well, mean old Mr. Potter is more of a schemer than a think; and given the high rates of hunting accidents, I'm not that surprised.

Well, I certainly visit your blog quite often Jez, so will be visiting later today.

DJEB, I was wondering, as well as stupidity, do you think there could have been some problem with Cheney's health on the day? We know that Cheney has been in pretty bad health, also, is Cheney known to drink?

The only reason I ask those questions,is because it seems odd that the White House didn't inform people of the incident on the same day. As i've stated, there was the delay before the public found out, could a reason for the delay perhaps be something to do with Cheney's health?

Didn't do anything wrong? Other than shooting a man in the face and chest, he didn't get the proper hunting stamp.

I think the White House didn't inform the press because they have always been anti-press and have always been secretive.

It's not likely that a man with Cheney's heart condition would be a heavy drinker.
