Blair to Brown handover next summer?

The Independent today reports that plans are in place for the handover of power to Gordon Brown by next summer. Personally, I don't see Brown's leadership being that much different to Blair's:

Lord Kinnock was last night reported to be among those urging Mr Blair to set a date for his departure. According to a report in The Sunday Times, the former leader advised the Prime Minister in a meeting before Christmas that the "clock was ticking". Senior Labour figures warn Labour faces humiliation in the May elections, particularly in London, unless Mr Blair indicates explicitly he will leave office by next year. Canvass returns already show Mr Blair is a liability on the doorstep, they say.
Readers may recall that at last year's general election, Blair's own MPs were reluctant to use Blair's photo for campaign purposes, and that opposition parties used his photo far more, Blair seemingly went into hiding for a large part of the campaign. See all recent "A Logical Voice" posts
