    Afghanistan: 19 people killed in heavy fighting

    According to this report, from Monsters and Critics, 19 people have been killed in heavy fighting in southern Afghanistan. The death toll continues to mount in the "liberated" country:

    At least 16 suspected Taliban fighters and three Afghan soldiers were killed Friday in heavy fighting in southern Afghanistan in which the Taliban encircled a deputy governor and 100 troops, the BBC reported. The deputy governor of Helmand province, Haji Mullah Mir, told the BBC that he and the 100 soldiers were only able to break out of the Taliban encirclement when 200 more troops arrived.
