Labour decides against imposing constraints on anti war candidates

From the Guardian: Rebels get free rein over war

Labour's high command has decided against imposing any constraints on what its candidates say about the invasion of Iraq. Officials are convinced that the war has little traction in most of Britain, even though the willingness of some candidates to go out of the way to express their opposition suggests there is greater nervousness on the ground.
And for the record, although Valerie avey continues to insist that she was against the invasion, according to the Public Whip website, which has a record on how all MPs have voted on all issues, Valerie Davey abstained from the main vote on the decision to invade Iraq, although she did vote in favour of an ammendment to say that the case for war had not been made. She cannot therefore claim that she voted against the invasion. See all recent "A Logical Voice" posts
