    GP's targets could be scrapped

According to this article, from the Independent today, the 48 hour waiting targets for GPs may be scrapped. The issue was raised on the special Question Time programme the other night, in which an audience member questioned Blair, and, typically, Blair lied, saying that he had no idea about the problem of how targets were affecting the service available to patients:

During the BBC Question Time Leaders' Special programme, Diana Church, a member of the audience, complained that it was impossible to book appointments with a GP more than two days in advance since the 48-hour target had been introduced. A baffled Mr Blair responded: "Surely they [GPs] are not saying you have to have [an appointment] quicker than you want it?' He was assured by a vociferous section of the audience that that was, indeed, the case.
Blair & Co knew very well about the impact of targets on patient services, as the matter was discussed on a number of occasions within the cabinet. See all recent "A Logical Voice" posts
