    Focus on Shipley

The latest constituency focus from ePolitix takes a look at Shipley:

In 2001 Labour's Christopher Leslie had his majority reduced to 1,428, about half his winning margin of 2,996 in 1997. A swing of just 1.6 per cent for the Conservatives would win Shipley back and claim the scalp of highly regarded junior minister Leslie. It would not be the equivalent of Portillo losing Enfield Southgate in 1997 but it would be a start for Michael Howard's troops. It is for that reason, and to retain as big a majority they can, that Labour is desperate to hang on to it even though it is not traditional Labour territory.
