US will arm Iraq rebels fighting against elected Shiites

There's guerilla war, and then, there's guerilla war, but Iraq is a complete disaster, now the US has realised that the side they never thought would win the Iraq elections did win, they've got former Saddam Hussein regime elements (formerly known as "insurgents", "terrorists", or plain old baathists) on their side, and are arming them to battle for power in Iraq. Confused? It seems like it's going to get a lot more confusing. US fights back against 'rule by clerics'

Of these calls for autonomy or federalism, the most disconcerting for US authorities is the call for religious rule. Already, leading Shi'ite clerics in Iraq are pushing for "Islam to be recognized as the guiding principle of the new constitution". To head off this threat of a Shi'ite clergy-driven religious movement, the US has, according to Asia Times Online investigations, resolved to arm small militias backed by US troops and entrenched in the population to "nip the evil in the bud".
The Bush regime doctrine appears to be, if you hold a so called "democratic" election, and those who you don't want to win do win, then turn to your former enemies to try and overthrow the people who've been "elected". And we never heard any doubts about the legitimacy of the elections from the US, did we? See all recent "A Logical Voice" posts
