    Brown as leader would double Labour's lead

    The Independent reflects on Blair's unpopularity.

    The poll finds that Mr Brown would open up a 15-point gap over the opposition if he were leader, as opposed to a seven-point lead under Tony Blair. Mr Brown would raise Labour's share of the vote from 41 per cent to 46 per cent, at the expense equally of the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.
