    Queen issues plea for tolerance

    In her yearly address to the nation, the Queen issued a plea for religious and cultural tolerance.

    She conceded that 'discrimination still exists' in Britain, but said the nation could achieve most by pulling together. 'Some people feel that their own beliefs are being threatened. Some are unhappy about unfamiliar cultures,' she said, in a message filmed in the Yellow Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. 'They all need to be reassured that there is so much to be gained by reaching out to others; that diversity is indeed a strength and not a threat.
